Since taking office, the Trump administration has targeted LGBTQI+ communities and their most fundamental rights. The administration has censored information and erased LGBTQI+ people from government websites and rescinded funding for LGBTQI+ programs and research. President Trump has also directed the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to produce government-sponsored misinformation. In light of these dramatic attacks on the federal data ecosystem, continuing data collection by private researchers and organizations remains a critical strategy to fight back.Â
Join the Center for American Progress for a discussion about the threats facing LGBTQI+ Americans and new data from the 2024 CAP LGBTQI+ Community Survey. The event will highlight the urgent need for evidence-based policymaking.
Â
The event will feature opening remarks from Rep. Mark Takano (D-CA), chair of the Congressional Equality Caucus, about the importance of nondiscrimination protections for LGBTQI+ people and a conversation with CAP LGBTQI+ Policy Director Caleb Smith, Dr. Kellan Baker, executive director of the Institute for Health Research and Policy at Whitman-Walker, and CEO of The Trevor Project, Jaymes Black on the ways we can use data to form effective policy solutions.
Â
For in-person attendees:
Identification will be required for entry to the event. Bring a photo ID.Â
A light breakfast will be provided at the start of the event.
There is an online option to attend as well.Â
